Welcome to the Devonport Junior Hockey Club website.
2009 is here!!, and as a club we can look foward to 4 more months of training and games.
The Friday night league continues from the 9th January. The full league can be downloaded from the downloads area of this web site. There are also cut down DJHC only versions, designed to be printed on 1 double sided A4 sheet or 2 double sided A4 sheets . One complication is the Plymouth Marjon Hockey club has recently re-organised into two clubs Plymouth Marjon Hockey Club and Plymouth Junior Hockey Club, so we now need to determine what impact this has on the league.
And as a gentle reminder - the Friday night games do cost £2 per hour of games - this is purely to cover the costs of booking the pitches - all coaching/management time etc is completely voluntary. But the biggest reminder - please ensure that all players have a drink with them, and a warm coat (waterproof), which to avoid confusion should not be a dark green (the colour of the DJHC shirts). Also, labelling of clothes and equipment is highly recommended - the clubs lost and found storage location is beginning to buldge!
With the pitches becoming increasingly slippery over the winter period, Astro turf 'football boots' are highly recommended to give more grip while playing.
Awards for all grant and name change
At this point we would like to thank the PGSOB club (which is one of the two senior parent clubs - Mannamead Ladies being the other) for their support from their Awards for All funding. This has allowed the Junior club to update and provide more goal keeping equipment, along with being able to assist both Stoke Damerel Community college and Devonport High School for Boys. The club is also looking to replace all the players shirts, however, the club is looking to change its name and logo. We have now received a number of entries from the players - and these will be placed in the gallery very soon and winners selected.
A big thank you to Joanne!
One of the club's coaches raised £140 for the club as part of her birthday party! Thank you Joanne. She has asked that this be used for the club's end of season celebration.
Sunday morning sessions
The club is still regularly hitting the high 45 - 55 players attending the Sunday sessions, however, we are now looking to re-organise the sessions as the number of younger plays is so high we want to give them more place to train. This means that the U16 players will now train at the two senior clubs. It does mean that we can now restart actively advertising for more players, especially especially U14 (school years 8 & 9) girls and U12 boys (school years 6 & 7).
Just as a reminder, if anyone wants any printed copies of the 2008/2009 club poster, then contact Robin or download a version from this website. This is also being distributed to the schools in the catchment area.
There is no need to book for our Sunday sessions, just come along - the first two sessions are free for new members to the club and we provide sticks and balls, you just need suitable trainers or astro boots, normal sports clothing and shin pads. We always also recommend gum shields. |

Under 16 boys tournament
The U16 team had a stunning time at the U16 tournament, not losing any games and coming second on the day. This will mean that in the next parts of the tournament they have moved up a level. Well done lads!

England Hockey Followers Membership
For those who want to receive additional information, discounts and memorabilia from the heart of England Hockey, a new hockey "followers" membership scheme has been launched. This is not part of the DJHC, but if you do wish to join up please quote our club id '1923' as the club is given a £50 Barrington Sports voucher for hockey kit for every 10 people it signs up.
For further details, use this link www.englandhockey.co.uk/membership
Promoting Hockey
We have been actively involved in the local schools in supporting the Plymouth Hockey Development Group's "Hooked on Hockey" campaign, providing loan equipment to two of these schools to ensure the enjoyment and safety for the school team players.
